Hike #12: Le Puy St Reparade, La Quille, Château La Coste Leaders: Tehila, Avi, Sharon, Isa, Jean-Pierre Date: January 04th , 2022 |

Cette randonnée nous mènera jusqu'à 'La Quille', où nous verrons les ruines d'un ancien village romain fortifié. Il a subi d'importants dommages suite au tremblement de terre de 1909 et plus tard, en 1980, il a été touché par la foudre, provoquant l'effondrement de la tour. En 1994, grâce à l'aide financière du gouvernement, le secteur est rénové avec l'ajout d'une aire de pique-nique, d'un parcours de santé et d'une table d'orientation. Après avoir visité les ruines, nous marcherons ensuite le long de sentiers boisés avant d'atteindre des espaces avec des vues magnifiques sur la vallée de la Durance, les collines du Luberon et les montagnes enneigées des Alpes. Au retour, nous aurons de belles vues vers le sud et sur le domaine du château La Coste. C'est une longue randonnée mais sans difficulté particulière. Des chaussures de randonnée appropriées sont requises car le sentier peut être très boueux et rocheux.
This hike takes us up to ‘La Quille’, where we will see the ruins of an ancient, roman, fortified village. It suffered significant damage from the earthquake in 1909 and later, in 1980, was hit by lightning causing the tower to collapse. In 1994, with financial government aid, the area was renovated with the addition of a picnic area, fitness trail and orientation table. After visiting the ruins we will then walk along wooded paths before reaching open areas with magnificent views over the Durance valley, the Luberon hills and the snow-capped mountains of the Alps. On the return we will have lovely views towards the south and over the area of château La Coste. This is a long hike but with no particular difficulty. Proper hiking boots required as it can be very muddy and rocky.

Directions From Aix take the D14 direction Puyricard/ Le Puy ste Reparade. Continue on D14 passing by chateau La Coste and entering the small hamlet of La Cride. Here, on a bend, you will see an old, stone ‘lavoir’ on the left. Directly opposite this ‘lavoir’you take the right turn into chemin de St Jean, signposted with a brown sign ‘Domaine Départmental de La Quille’. Continue up this narrow, winding road until you reach the top and the large parking area.
