Hike #18: Mont Julien Leaders: Sharon, Chris Date: February 13th, 2024 |

This hike starts from the bottom of the Vallon de la Vache and climbs steadily (and occasionally steeply) upwards to the summit of the Mont Julien. The rewards for this climb are the magnificent, panoramic, 360 degree views over Marseille, Notre-Dame de la Garde, the coast and the islands. In the other direction there are views over Sainte Victoire and on to the snow-capped Alps. Here we will enjoy our picnic before descending through the pretty, narrow and rocky valleys of La Figuière and La Vache. Good hiking shoes are a must and walking sticks are recommended.
Cette randonnée part du fond du Vallon de la Vache et monte de façon régulière (et parfois abrupte) jusqu'au sommet du Mont Julien. Cette ascension sera récompensée par de magnifiques vues panoramiques à 360 degrés sur Marseille, Notre-Dame de la Garde, la côte et les îles. De l'autre côté, nous aurons de belles vues sur la Sainte-Victoire et les sommets enneigés des Alpes. Là, nous en profiterons pour pique-niquer avant de redescendre par les jolis vallons étroits et rocailleux de La Figuière et de La Vache. De bonnes chaussures de randonnée sont indispensables et les bâtons sont recommandés.

Meeting point: Directly at the start of the hike at 10 am
Directions: Drive towards Allauch on the D908. Approximately 4kms after you pass the Parc de Pichauris look out for a very small turning on the right, which is concealed on a bend. Take this small, narrow road, Chemin du Vallon de la Vache, and drive for 500metres to the end where there is a small parking area. If this is full you can park half way up this road and walk up to the starting point. Car pool where possible due to the limited parking.
